PadPilot Hires Former F-35 Test Pilot

Padpilot, a UK-based aviation publisher and provider of pilot training courseware, has appointed Nathan Gray as its new Head of Learning and Development.

Gray, a former F35 test pilot and one of the most decorated pilots in the British armed forces, brings a wealth of experience to the role. He has served as a high-risk test pilot, fighter pilot, and fast jet flight instructor, with over two decades of service in the Fleet Air Arm.

Gray’s extensive flying career includes operating multiple aircraft such as the Harrier, F-15, F-16, F-18, and F-35. He has completed over 140 combat missions and holds qualifications as a commando green beret, paratrooper, and forward air controller. Notably, he was involved in the F-35 stealth jet development program, performing the first-ever F-35 launch and recovery on HMS Queen Elizabeth in 2018. Gray is also a published author and a STEM ambassador.

The announcement of Gray’s appointment coincides with a period of growth for Padpilot, which has sold over 300,000 interactive textbooks and expanded its global network of training partners. These partners include 140 airlines, air forces, universities, and training organisations. Recently, the company launched a new ATPL(H) theory course for commercial helicopter pilots and introduced a new ‘eReader’ content platform, allowing its interactive ebooks to be accessible across various devices.

Gray expressed enthusiasm about joining Padpilot, emphasizing the importance of foundational knowledge in pilot training and his commitment to creating efficient, effective, and enjoyable learning experiences for future pilots.

Padpilot CEO Graham Cownie welcomed Gray, highlighting his diverse experience in aviation and his dynamic approach to learning. Cownie anticipates that Gray’s appointment will significantly contribute to Padpilot’s future endeavors in pilot education.
