Two Scandinavian flight schools, Luftfartsskolen (LFS) and Scandinavian Aviation Academy (SAA) have joined to create a new company based in Norway. The new company, LFS/SAA, will operate two flight schools out of Norway and Sweden. Both schools are nationally approved to provide traffic flight and vocational training. LFS/SAA is planning the launch of flight training for future airline pilots at Kjeller, Oslo, in December 2015.

LFS/SAA opened its new facilities at Kjeller airport in Lillestrøm, Oslo, 1 of October 2015. Kjeller Airport is situated in the centre of an area which contains the entire spectrum of airspace classes and close to the three largest airports in the eastern part of Norway. Combined with the close proximity of the capital, the school says that it expects the new flight training base to become a dynamic centre for traffic flight training in Norway.

A statement from the new flight school explains, ‘Conservative analyses for the period between 2015 and 2035 forecast the need for 95,000 new pilots in Europe. At SAS alone there is a forecasted need for approximately 1,500 new Scandinavian pilots before the year of 2025.’ The new school aims to meet this demand.

In addition to SAA’s main base at Stockholm Västerås Airport and the new, jointly-owned base at Kjeller airport, Oslo, SAA also has a satellite base in San Diego, California. LFS has partner schools in Daytona Beach, Florida, and Portland, Oregon. Between them, more than 100 training airplanes and about 10 flight simulators are available. The short term goal, the company states, is to use this resource to continue expanding, outside of the Scandinavia market.

As part of the expansion, the new school is also seeking flight instructors, FI(A), FI(A-I) and CRI. For more information, contact Scandinavian Aviation Academy.
