CAE OAA’s bmi regional graduate pilot programme takes off

Embraer EMB-145EP - BMI Regional (G-RJXF)bmi regional has teamed up with CAE Oxford Aviation Academy to create a new graduate cadet programme to find future flight deck crew. CAE will also provide type rating training to the graduate cadets and provide recurrent training to all bmi regional’s pilots on the first Level D Embraer 145 simulator in the UK, which will be located at CAE’s Burgess Hill Training Centre from October 2014.

According to CAE OAA, bmi regional requires at least 10 new graduates in the remainder of 2014 to meet its expansion plans for its new UK and Europe services. As the airline continues its expansion programme, the requirement for cadets is expected to double next year and beyond. As part of this programme, a minimum of 70 CAE Oxford Aviation Academy graduate cadets are due to be selected by bmi regional and undergo CAE type training in preparation for joining the airline over the next five years.

“This graduate programme offers an invaluable opportunity to fly for one of Europe’s leading regional airlines. We have been inundated by applications, with more than a hundred pouring in within the first 24 hours,” said Cathal O’Connell, CEO of bmi regional.

“CAE is proud to offer this innovative pilot provisioning and training programme to help bmi regional face its growing needs for new pilots. This solution combines CAE Oxford Aviation Academy’s selection and training and CAE’s  simulation and type training offering which provides bmi with the best fit to meet its new and recurrent pilot training requirements,” said Nick Leontidis, Group President, Civil Training and Services at CAE.

From October 2014 CAE’s Type Rating Training Programme will consist of three weeks of ground school and two weeks of simulator training at CAE’s Centre in Burgess Hill. On successful completion of the Type Rating, the trainees will undertake induction training with bmi regional in Aberdeen, followed by Base and Line Training. Type training of the new graduate cadets began on 4 August 2014 and they will commence as First Officers Under Training at bmi regional bases from late September.

“This initiative will ensure that we are training tomorrow’s pilots today with a cadet graduate programme which delivers invaluable experience of flying with one of the UK’s leading airlines. This continues to be an exciting period of growth for bmi regional,” added O’Connell.
