ProPilot’s new Competency-based IR theory course

CBIR_iPads 600ProPilot has announced its full Competency Based Instrument Rating theoretical knowledge course has just been approved by the CAA and is one of the first of its kind.

The new EASA CBIR is designed for PPL holders who wish to fly the airways, and seven theoretical knowledge exams must be passed before the flight training element begins.

ProPilot’s course is a predominately distance learning, using their interactive iBook manuals and workbooks, but also includes two days of classroom tuition before the CAA exams.

The seven examination subjects for the new CBIR are: Air Law, Instruments, Meteorology, Flight Planning, Human Performance, Radio Navigation and IFR Communications. A pilot with a CPL will not need to sit Meteorology and Human Performance exams.

PPL holders can begin a CBIR theory course now and the first classroom sessions will be held at ProPilot’s Coventry Airport base in November.

The course is £950 and includes the iBook manuals, workbooks and all classroom tuition. The course price for CPL holder is £890.

ProPilot are holding an Open Day on Saturday, 11 October, for anyone interested in the new CBIR or ATPL /CPL theory courses.
